​Marilyn Ranada Donato moved to the United States in 1962 for postgraduate training in dietetics and has lived there ever since. She has worked at hospitals in Michigan, Massachusetts, and Virginia and as an independent private practitioner, nutrition lecturer, and food editor for several Philippine American newspapers. In 1992, she received the Americanism Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution General James Breckinridge Chapter and the Women of Distinction award. Marilyn is the author of the cookbook Philippine Cooking in America.​
