Francis C. Macansantos (1949–2017). .[KW1]  A five-time Palanca Award winner in English poetry, Francis won the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Writers’ Prize for Epic Poetry in 2003. He published four books of poetry: The Words and Other Poems, Womb of Water, Breasts of Earth, Balsa: Poemas Chabacano, and Snail Fever: Poems of Two Decades. Snail Fever was a Philippine National Book Award winner for poetry in English in 2017 and Balsa, was a Philippine National Book Award finalist in 2012. He taught at several universities, and served on panels of critics in creative writing workshops throughout the Philippines. In 2014, Francis was one of the winners of the Maria W. Faust Sonnet Contest. He and his wife, writer/mathematician Priscilla Macansantos, raised their  daughter, the writer Monica Macansantos, in Baguio City, Philippines and Delaware, USA.
